JAZZ DANCE CLASSES

BEGINNER

Objective: Develop basic fundamentals, building strength and flexibility, learning key jazz vocabulary, and developing a sense of rhythm and musicality.

  • Warm-up: Stretching, floor work (e.g., pliés, relevés), basic isolations (e.g., shoulder, hip, torso).

  • Technique: Plié, relevé, chainé, chassé, jeté, attitude, releve (toe or heel), turn (pivot), and basic combinations.

  • Conditioning: Jump variations, arm circles, leg swings, and abdominal work.

  • Musicality: Understanding basic rhythms, counts, and musical phrasing.

  • Choreography: Short, simple combinations with clear, basic movements.

  • Level Progression: Once basic steps and concepts are mastered, move on to more complex combinations and choreography.

INTERMEDIATE

Objective: Building upon the foundation, improving technique, increasing stamina, and exploring more complex choreography.

  • Conditioning: Increased jumps and leaps, more complex arm and leg combinations.

  • Musicality: Refining musical phrasing, understanding dynamics, and incorporating more complex rhythmic patterns.

  • Choreography: More challenging combinations, potentially introducing choreographic elements like partnering or small group work.

  • Level Progression: Introduce more advanced techniques, like fouetté turns, releve turns, and complex jumps.

ADVANCED

Objective: Mastering of advanced techniques, developing individual style and expression, and creating choreography.
